A shocking incident at a Taipa hotel has resulted in the death of a woman following a suspected premeditated attack, according to Macao’s Judiciary Police (PJ). The violent episode, which took place last Thursday, November 13, culminated in the arrest of another mainland national on suspicion of aggravated homicide and unlawful possession of prohibited weapons, underscoring the severe consequences of deeply personal conflict spilling into public tragedy.
The victim, a mainland woman in her 30s employed by an educational institution in Macao since August 2024, was allegedly lured to a hotel room before the assault began. Preliminary post-mortem findings released Friday, November 14, indicated the victim suffered horrific injuries, including over 30 stab wounds, with multiple penetrating wounds to the chest determined to be fatal.
Unraveling the Chronology of Events
The investigation centers on a 33-year-old mainland national, identified by the surname Miao, who is reportedly a social worker. Detectives revealed that the suspect and the deceased were acquainted, having known each other since their academic days. The suspect had previously visited Macao last month, suggesting a degree of familiarity with the area.
Police believe the core motive behind the brutal killing stems from a relationship dispute, having initially ruled out any financial connection. The evidence suggests the attack was meticulously planned. On the day of the incident, the suspect allegedly traveled from the mainland carrying a short knife with a 10-centimeter blade.
Upon checking into the hotel, investigators tracked the suspect’s movements to a central Macao shopping mall, where she reportedly acquired two additional large blades: a 16-centimeter utility knife and a 16-centimeter cleaver, dramatically escalating the potential for harm. The acquisition of multiple large knives has led the PJ to classify all three recovered blades as falling under the legal definition of prohibited weapons in Macao.
Hotel Staff Discover the Aftermath
Surveillance footage at the hotel showed the victim meeting the suspect in the lobby around 3:30 p.m. before they entered the room together without any apparent signs of conflict or distress. Approximately twenty minutes later, however, the suspect telephoned the front desk requesting assistance.
Hotel staff rushed to the room and discovered both women collapsed amid clear signs of a violent struggle, including extensive bloodstains on the floor. Emergency services were immediately summoned. Both women were transported to the hospital, where the victim was later pronounced dead. The suspect sustained minor cuts, consistent with injuries that could have been inflicted during a struggle or resistance.
Investigators recovered two bloodstained knives at the crime scene, while the unused 16-centimeter cleaver was found in the suspect’s backpack.
Following medical treatment, the suspect was discharged from the hospital and immediately taken into custody for intensive questioning. Due to the severe nature of the alleged crime and the evidence pointing toward premeditation, the case has been formally referred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further judicial proceedings.
This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of how deeply personal conflicts can result in devastating outcomes, requiring authorities to address not only the immediate crime but also the underlying issues of interpersonal violence. The community awaits further clarity on the incident as the legal process unfolds.
