Police Shut Down Illegal Poker Den in San Po Kong Industrial Building

Wong Tai Sin District police delivered a significant blow to organized crime this week, successfully dismantling a clandestine Texas Hold’em operation housed within a Tsat Po Street industrial building in San Po Kong. The raid, executed around 5 p.m. on November 6, led to the immediate arrest of ten individuals connected to the illegal gambling ring, underscoring law enforcement’s sustained push against illicit activities in commercial districts.

The Enforcement Action and Apprehensions

The targeted operation focused on a specific unit within a factory structure, suspected of running an unauthorized, commercial-scale poker establishment. Authorities acted swiftly, apprehending those allegedly involved in both managing and participating in the illegal games.

Of the ten suspects detained, two key individuals face serious charges related to the operation’s management. A 28-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly operating the gambling premise, while a 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting in its operation.

The remaining eight suspects, all males aged between 21 and 44, were arrested for gambling in an unauthorized place. All detainees are currently in police custody pending further investigation, which aims to uncover the full scope of the enterprise and any potential links to larger criminal networks.

Seizure of Assets and Gaming Equipment

During the raid, officers seized significant evidence illustrating the scope and professional nature of the illegal den. Among the items confiscated were three specialized Texas Hold’em gaming tables, central to the operation’s functionality.

Financial evidence included approximately HK$4,800 in cash, suspected to be profits or stake money. More significantly, authorities seized gaming chips valued at an estimated HK$33,000, along with various other tools and implements used specifically for conducting the illicit poker games. The combined evidence indicates a well-equipped, if discreet, commercial gambling setup.

Ongoing Commitment to Combat Illegal Gambling

This successful enforcement action forms a critical component of the Wong Tai Sin district’s persistent strategy to suppress illegal gambling. Law enforcement agencies routinely target these underground operations, which often pose risks beyond gambling losses, including association with triad activities, money laundering, and neighborhood disruption.

Operating gambling premises without the appropriate permits constitutes serious offenses under Hong Kong law. Furthermore, visiting or participating in these dens carries legal penalties for individuals found guilty of illegal gambling. The prevalence of such operations in industrial and commercial buildings is a recurring issue, as operators exploit less-monitored environments for their clandestine businesses.

Community members are continuously urged to report suspicious activities, particularly units in non-residential buildings that exhibit unusual traffic patterns or late-night activity, to support law enforcement’s efforts in maintaining public order and safety across the city. The investigation into the San Po Kong operation remains active, with further arrests or charges possible as police analyze the seized evidence.
