This comprehensive philanthropic effort, announced on December 9, aims to provide dignified final farewells, especially for victims whose remains were severely affected by the devastating incident.
Immediate Support and Financial Relief
The TWGHs, a major charitable organization, initiated immediate relief efforts by mobilizing its three funeral parlors to offer pro-bono services to the victims’ families. Recognizing the profound financial and emotional distress caused by the calamity, the group has set aside substantial funding to cover necessary expenses.
Albert Su Yau-on, Chief Executive of the TWGHs, stated that the organization’s dedicated funeral fund would allocate up to HK$80,000 (approximately US$10,200) per deceased individual to ensure meaningful services. This financial assistance addresses immediate needs for memorialization and disposition.
Exploring 3D Printing for Post-Mortem Restoration
The scale and intensity of the structure fire resulted in circumstances where some remains are incomplete or severely compromised, presenting significant challenges for traditional funeral rites. To address this, TWGHs is actively consulting with professional post-mortem restoration specialists and considering the novel application of 3D printing technology.
“We understand the sensitivity and distress associated with the condition of remains following an incident of this magnitude,” Su remarked. “By exploring 3D reconstruction technology, we hope to offer families a more complete and peaceful state for their loved ones, facilitating a more healing and respectful farewell.”
