The confrontation began shortly before midnight when a female staff member inside the convenience store reported that a man had allegedly snatched a pack of cigarettes and fled the premises without attempting to pay. A male colleague immediately pursued the suspect outside, where a physical struggle reportedly ensued. Online visual reports circulating later depicted at least two individuals—presumably store staff—holding a man dressed in dark clothing down on the floor of the mall’s lower level while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement.
Responding officers from the Hong Kong Police Force quickly arrived at the scene. The individual being restrained, a 36-year-old man, was formally arrested on suspicion of theft.
